Marisa González | Bilbao, 1945. Lives in Madrid.
http://www.marisagonzalez.com/
After studying piano at the Bilbao Conservatory, González began to show an interest in the visual arts. Upon completing a degree in Fine Arts in Madrid (1971), she went to the United States to continue her studies, focussing on the practice of Generative Systems, termed in this way by Marisa González's principal mentor, the artist Sonia Sheridan, founder of the department of the same name at the Art Institute of Chicago. She then became familiar with a new galaxy of ideas and tools for communication, reproduction and creation: photocopiers, FAX systems, and video computers. These became her habitual media and research fields, to which were added video installations, digital technolgies and the Web, among others. Marisa González uses electronic media as if they were in and of themselves musical instruments, composing her visual works along the intuitive criteria of rhythm, sequencing and harmony, without forgetting the word's expressive will and semiotic function, which always looks to find an eloquent expression in her work. "To invent, to generate, to produce. To germinate and to grow."
